many years of painstaking research to discover in the great public libraries and private collections some two thousand five hundred books dealing with the fascinating subject of gastronomy in all its different aspects ... they are presented with the most meticulous bibliographical details, and many of them with very interesting and valuable notes by Vicaire himself.
